The Second Grade “Scoop”

Date: Aug. 21
For the Week of: August 24-28

Reminders:
*Aug. 22: Zion Lutheran Church service at 5:00PM
*Aug. 23: Zion Lutheran Church service at 8:00AM and 10:45AM
*Sept. 7: Labor Day—No School
*Sept. 25: School Carnival: Please sign up at the door to our classroom if you’d like to help! Thanks!

Spelling:
We will be learning unit 2 words this week. The list is enclosed. The pretest will be Monday, Aug. 24, and the final test will be Friday, Aug. 28. Students who get all of the basic words right on Monday will not need to take the final test Friday. (Please note that correct challenge words do not “cancel out” missed basic words.)

Memory Work:
The memory work due next week is enclosed. Students may recite their memory work to me any morning of next week. In religion, we are studying Adam and Eve and their relationship with the Lord.

Math:
We will be working on the “doubles” math facts: 0+0, 1+1, 2+2, 3+3… as well as the ones and twos addition facts: 2+1, 2+2, 3+1, 3+2, 4+1, 4+2….

Reading:
Just a reminder to please have your child read out loud to you on a daily basis, if possible.

HOME folder:
Please continue to check your child’s HOME folder each evening. Work that has been graded will be on the left-hand side, and work that needs to be completed will be on the right-hand side. It is always very helpful to go through graded work each evening with your child so that he/she can see mistakes and/or make corrections.

Assignment Books:
Students have begun filling out and taking home their assignment books. Just a reminder that if an assignment has been X’d out, it has been completed and turned in. If an assignment is circled, it is homework to be finished, and it should be in the right-hand side of the HOME folder. Thanks!

On a final note…
I am so enjoying getting to know your child! All students seem to be adjusting well to second grade procedures and responsibilities!
*Thank-you to all of you who wish to volunteer! I had several parents sign up, and I really appreciate it. Please know that some of the volunteer opportunities are “time-sensitive” and I may need to choose a volunteer who is available at that particular time. Please do not feel offended if I cannot use you for a certain job. I truly appreciate you having an interest in helping out!
*Just a reminder that you can access our class blog by going to www.zionmrsbrewer.blogspot.com OR by going to the school website (www.brightonzionlutheran.org), clicking on School, Class Pages, and Mrs. Brewer’s name.
God’s blessings on your week!

In Christ,
Mrs. Brewer

How many are Your works, O Lord! In wisdom
