Spelling:
We will be learning unit 1 words this week. The list is enclosed. The pretest will be Monday, Aug. 17, and the final test will be Friday, Aug. 21. Students who get all of the basic words right on Monday will not need to take the final test Friday. (Please note that correct challenge words do not “cancel out” missed basic words.)

Memory Work:
The memory work due next week is enclosed. Students may recite their memory work to me any morning of next week. In religion, we are studying God’s work of creation!

Math:
We will be reviewing some first grade concepts in math; including basic addition facts, number sequence, and telling time to the hour.

Reading:
Just a reminder to please have your child read out loud to you on a daily basis, if possible. Perhaps he/she can read a story to you during the car ride home, or before bed—whatever works for your family and schedule!
Also, we write daily, and many times this means writing in our journals. Journals are items that I keep here at school, which means that you may not see the writing pieces come home on a regular basis. Please know that you will have an opportunity to look at your child’s journal at conference time!

On a final note…
Our first day(s) have gone very well. I am excited at the opportunity to get to know your child better and better as the days continue!
*Please look for the assignment notebook to go home starting next week. The assignment notebook and the HOME folder will go home each afternoon, and will be brought back to school each school morning.
*If you have any signed forms for your child (cell phone/attendance policy, and technology use policy) please send those with your child next week. Thanks!
*Enclosed is information on how to access our classroom blog. Our classroom blog will contain our spelling words and memory work for the week, as well as this class newsletter. Please feel free to try it out! (Let me know if it’s not working! J)
God’s blessings on your week!

In Christ,
Mrs. Brewer
