*Sept. 23: Midterm reports go home: There will be a form to fill out attached to the midterm report! Please read the form carefully and fill it out to let me know which spelling list you would like sent home with your child each week. Thanks!
*Sept. 21-25: Scholastic Book Fair! Students may go to the library to buy books either before school, after school, or during our library time on TUESDAY. The book fair will be open on Sunday, Sept. 20, between church services as well! (A book order form for October will go out next week.)
*Sept. 25: School Carnival: Thank-you for volunteering! Our booth will be a bowling booth! (You may be hearing from a parent representative from our class about helping out.) Also, no school lunch will be served on this day, due to set-up for the carnival. All students will need a sack lunch on this day. Thanks!
*Sept. 30-Oct.2: NO SCHOOL—Rocky Mountain District Teacher’s Conference

Spelling:
We will be learning unit 7 words this week. The list is enclosed. The pretest will be Monday, Sept. 21 and the final test will be Friday, Sept. 25. Reminder: Students who get all of the basic words right on Tuesday will not need to take the final test Friday. (Please note that correct challenge words do not “cancel out” missed basic words.) Please fill-out the form that is sent home on Wednesday with midterm reports to let me know if you would like your child to receive a more challenging list each week. Thanks!

Memory Work:
The memory work due next week is enclosed. Students may recite their memory work to me any morning of next week. In religion, we are studying Joseph and Moses, and how God chose them for His purposes.

Math:
We will continue to work on our sums of 8, 9, and 10! (Just a reminder: if your child needs some extra practice with math facts, I do have sets of flashcards available. Please let me know and I will gladly lend them out. There are many computer games that are helpful with fact practice as well; some of them can be found on our school website. Your child should know how to access them!)

Reading:
Just a reminder to please have your child read out loud to you on a daily basis, when possible. Many of the students are “at-level” for smaller chapter books!
* Also, our next sight word testing date will be September 23rd. Sight words will be going home on Tuesday, Sept. 22, and will need to be returned Friday, Sept. 25. The goal is instant recognition of each word. A little practice each night is helpful.

English/Language Arts:
We have had a “writers’ workshop” this past week, where the students have been working on our first major writing project! They are learning how to write personal narratives using the writing process: prewriting, drafting, revising, proofreading, and publishing!

Science:
In science class, we continue to study plants and animals. We are studying the parts of a plant. Be looking for a study guide for an upcoming unit test to be going home in the next few weeks.

On a final note…
*Please continue to check your child’s HOME folder and assignment book each evening.
*Just a reminder that you can access our class blog by going to www.zionmrsbrewer.blogspot.com OR by going to the school website (www.brightonzionlutheran.org), clicking on School, Class Pages, and Mrs. Brewer’s name.
*Our chapel offering this quarter will go toward the Brighton Food Pantry.
*We are having a canned food drive throughout September to benefit the Catholic Charities Brighton Food Bank. Drop-off places will be located at the entrance to the school and preschool. This drive will last through this week! If you can help out, that would be great!
*We have started using the library. Students are responsible for taking care of their books and videos, as well as for turning them in on time.
*Students who are absent are responsible for making up their work in a timely manner. This is important for them, so that they don’t fall farther behind in class, and so that I can get their work graded and entered quickly. Thanks so much!
God’s blessings on your week!

In Christ,
Mrs. Brewer
