*Oct. 11: Zion Lutheran Church service at 8:00AM and 10:45AM
*Oct. 11, Sunday: Second grade sings at the 8:00AM church service here at Zion. Students will meet in Miss Rempfer’s classroom at 7:45AM. The students will be singing from the front of the church and may join their families following the Children’s Message.
*Oct. 12: Science Test on Unit A: A study guide was sent home 2 weeks ago. It is on our classroom blog as well. We have reviewed the material as a class over the course of this week, but students will need to study at home as well. They will have their science books over the weekend.

*Oct. 27 and 28: Picture Retakes
*Oct. 28: Report cards go home.

*Oct. 30: No School—Parent/Teacher Conferences
Spelling:
We will be on unit 9 for the book list, and list 2 for the challenge list. The pretests will be Monday, Oct. 12, and the final tests will be Friday, Oct. 16.
Memory Work:
Memory work for this week is enclosed. Students may say their memory work any morning next week. The students are doing a super job learning their memory work each week!
Math:
We will continue to work on our sums of 11, and will begin working on addition facts with sums of 12. (Just a reminder: if your child needs some extra practice with math facts, I do have sets of flashcards available. Please let me know and I will gladly lend them out. There are many computer games that are helpful with fact practice as well; some of them can be found on our school website. Your child should know how to access them!)
Reading:
Just a reminder to please have your child read out loud to you on a daily basis, when possible. Many of the students are “at-level” for smaller chapter books!
*New sight words will go home Tuesday, Oct. 13, and will need to be returned Friday, Oct. 16.
*Also, we have begun a reading program where students can keep track of their at-home reading for each month! A calendar was sent home last week. Our goal is 15 minutes of reading a day, or 465 total minutes for the month of October. If your child needs a new calendar, please have him/her see me! Read, read, read! J
English/Language Arts:
We continue to learn about nouns: singular, plural, proper, and possessive; as well as the parts of a friendly letter.
Science:
In science class, we continue to study plants and animals. A study guide was sent home 2 weeks ago. The test is Monday, October 12th. We will be studying animals and their habitats next.
On a final note…
*Please continue to check your child’s HOME folder and assignment book each evening.
*Just a reminder that you can access our class blog by going to http://www.zionmrsbrewer.blogspot.com/ OR by going to the school website (http://www.brightonzionlutheran.org/), clicking on School, Class Pages, and Mrs. Brewer’s name.
*Our chapel offering this quarter will go toward the Brighton Food Pantry.
*Thank you for your donations for the food drive!
*We have started using the library. Students are responsible for taking care of their books and videos, as well as for turning them in on time.
*Students who are absent are responsible for making up their work in a timely manner. This is important for them, so that they don’t fall farther behind in class, and so that I can get their work graded and entered quickly. Thanks so much!
*Just a reminder that we have begun the Yankee Candle Fundraiser! Envelopes are due October 19th. Thanks so much for your help in this fundraiser!
*As in past years, we will be going roller skating in place of a Halloween party. This will happen the last week in October. More information will be coming from the school office….
In Christ,
Mrs. Brewer
