Each student may bring a gift in the $5-7 range. Girls will bring a gift for a girl, boys will bring a gift for a boy. Please help your child pick a gift that he/she would be excited to receive. Gifts may be brought at any time.
Spelling:
We will be on unit 17 for the book list, and list 9 for the challenge list. The pretests will be Monday, Dec. 7, and the final tests will be Friday, Dec. 11.
Memory Work:
Memory work is enclosed. Students may say their memory work any day next week.
Math:
We continue to work on 100 addition facts. Also, we continue to work on subtraction facts (2s, 3s esp.).
Reading:
*New sight words will go home Tuesday, Dec. 8, and will need to be returned Friday, Dec. 11.
*Also, the Book It program continues this month. Our goal is 15 minutes of reading a day, or 465 total minutes for the month of December. December calendars were given out this past Tuesday. All December calendars will need to be turned in Monday, January 4, when we return from Christmas break. (A calendar for January will be sent home before Christmas break, so that students can keep track of their January reading as well.) Students who do complete their reading goal for December will receive a certificate for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. Please let me know if your child needs a new calendar.
English/Language Arts:
We continue to work on explanatory writing, as well as the correct use of verbs.
Science:
We continue to study the earth’s crust.
Social Studies:
We continue study maps. We will be working specifically on the cardinal and ordinal directions. Enclosed is a sample quiz of the continents and oceans. We will take this quiz on Friday, Dec. 11. We will continue to review in class, but students will need to study at home as well. This practice quiz may be helpful with that process. Students will need to be able to write the name of the continent on the map where it belongs, and then write the name of each ocean where it belongs. They will not need to memorize the spellings of the continents and oceans, but it would be a good challenge for them to try! Also, extra credit will be given to any student who can memorize the names and spellings of the 5 Great Lakes! (HINT: HOMES—Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, Superior).
On a final note…
*Please continue to check your child’s HOME folder and assignment book each evening.
*Just a reminder that you can access our class blog by going to www.zionmrsbrewer.blogspot.com OR by going to the school website (wwwbrightonzionlutheran.org), clicking on School, Class Pages, and Mrs. Brewer’s name.
