Memory Work:
Memory work is enclosed. Students may say their memory work any morning next week.

Math:
We are building up to 100 subtraction facts. We continue working on subtraction facts (8s and 9s). I do have both addition and subtraction flashcards to loan out for extra practice!

Reading:
*Also, the Book It program continues this month. February calendars are due Monday, Mar. 1. Our goal is 15 minutes of reading a day, or 420 total minutes for the month of February. Students who do complete their reading goal for February will get a certificate for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut! Have your child let me know if he/she needs a new calendar. New March calendars are enclosed. Our goal for this month is 15 minutes a day, or 465 total minutes. March calendars will be due Tuesday, April 6, when we return from Spring/Easter Break.

English/Language Arts:
We continue to work on pronouns and expository writing. Your child has learned a “jingle” to help them remember what pronouns do in a sentence; we are also working on subject-verb agreement.

Science:
We continue to learn more about the sun, moon, stars, and planets. The students are learning a “trick” to help them remember the eight planets in order. The planet quiz is scheduled for Monday, March 1.

Social Studies:
We have begun unit 5 entitled “A World of Many People.” Students will be learning about different cultures around the world. I will also be teaching them a little about the Hawaiian culture.

On a final note…
*Please continue to check your child’s HOME folder and assignment book each evening.
*Just a reminder that you can access our class blog by going to www.zionmrsbrewer.blogspot.com OR by going to the school website (www.brightonzionlutheran.org), clicking on School, Class Pages, and Mrs. Brewer’s name.
*Beginning in the second half of our school year, each student will have a chance to be our Student of the Week. When it is your child’s turn, he/she will bring home a form to fill out. Please help your child fill out the form by Wednesday of his/her week. On that day, he/she will share his/her answers with us and also have the opportunity to share one special item. More information will be sent when it is your child’s week.
*Chapel offerings are going toward Lutheran World Relief to help the people of Haiti. The “Quarter Raiders” are back as well! The National Junior Honor Society is collecting quarters and other spare change to help the people of Haiti. Students and parents can put spare change into our red and blue bucket by the SRA box.
*We had several students gone again this week. I tried my best to catch your child up on his/her missed tests. A HUGE thank-you to Mrs. Grein and Mr. Brewer who gave up their time to help students make-up tests throughout this week, and a HUGE thank-you to Miss Rempfer for being willing to schedule testing periods for absent students in both our classes!
God’s blessings on your week!
In Christ,
Mrs. Brewer
