Spelling:
We will be on unit 28 for the book list, and list 19 for the challenge list. There are some “extra extra” challenging words on the challenge list. These are not for a grade, they are simply for students who want to challenge themselves further in spelling. Students who do master these words will get the opportunity to pick from the prize basket. The pretests will be Monday, Mar. 8, and the final tests will be Friday, Mar. 12.
Memory Work:
Memory work is enclosed. Students may say their memory work any morning next week.
Math:
We are building up to 100 subtraction facts. We continue working on subtraction facts (8s and 9s). I do have both addition and subtraction flashcards to loan out for extra practice!
Reading:
*Also, the Book It program continues this month. New March calendars are were given out last week. Our goal for this month is 15 minutes a day, or 465 total minutes. March calendars will be due Tuesday, April 6, when we return from Spring/Easter Break. Please have your child let me know if he/she needs a new calendar. March is the last month for the Book It program.
English/Language Arts:
We continue to work on pronouns and expository writing. Your child has learned a “jingle” to help them remember what pronouns do in a sentence; we are also working on subject-verb agreement.
Science:
All students did a great job on their planet quiz! We will be wrapping up this unit with an open-book test done in class, and then we will be moving on to our unit on matter.
Social Studies:
We have begun unit 5 entitled “A World of Many People.” Students will be learning about different cultures around the world. I will also be teaching them a little about the Hawaiian culture.
On a final note…
*Please continue to check your child’s HOME folder and assignment book each evening.
*Just a reminder that you can access our class blog by going to www.zionmrsbrewer.blogspot.com OR by going to the school website (www.brightonzionlutheran.org), clicking on School, Class Pages, and Mrs. Brewer’s name.
*Beginning in the second half of our school year, each student will have a chance to be our Student of the Week. When it is your child’s turn, he/she will bring home a form to fill out. Please help your child fill out the form by Wednesday of his/her week. On that day, he/she will share his/her answers with us and also have the opportunity to share one special item. More information will be sent when it is your child’s week.
*Chapel offerings will be going to Bethesda Ministries this month. The “Quarter Raiders” are back as well! The National Junior Honor Society is collecting quarters and other spare change to help the people of Haiti. Students and parents can put spare change into our red and blue bucket by the SRA box.
*If you have a chance to participate in the on-line school survey, please take a minute to fill it out—thanks!
God’s blessings on your week!
In Christ,
Mrs. Brewer
