Date: April 9
For the Week of: April 12-16
Reminders:
*Apr. 13: Social Studies Test on Unit 5: A study guide was sent home Tuesday (04/06). Please have your child ask for a new one if needed. We will review together in class, but students will need to study at home as well.
*Apr. 23: Mid-Quarter; Night at the Museum: The entire school is turned into a museum! This is a great opportunity to see your child’s artwork. There will be “living art” as well. Come for a fun and entertaining evening!
*Apr. 28: Mid-Quarter Reports go Home
Spelling:
We will be on unit 32 for the book list, and list 22 for the challenge list. The pretests will be Monday, Apr. 12, and the final tests will be Friday, Apr. 16. (There are “extra” challenge words on the challenge list. These are just for fun—not graded. Students who do master the extra challenge words will have the opportunity to pick from the prize basket.)
Memory Work:
Memory work is enclosed. The students have learned the books of the Old Testament. This week we will be working on the first half of the New Testament (enclosed.) This will help the students in looking up verses. We will be learning a song in class to help us learn the order, but students will need to study/practice at home as well. Thanks!
Math:
We continue working on 100 subtraction facts and our 2s multiplication facts. Also, we will begin our 3s multiplication facts. I do have addition, subtraction, and multiplication flashcards to loan out for extra practice! Here are the 2s and 3s times tables:
0x2=0 0x3=0
1x2=2 1x3=3
2x2=4 2x3=6
3x2=6 3x3=9

Reading:
*We wrapped up the Book IT program this month. All students did an excellent job reading this year! Students who reached their reading goals for all six months will get to have a special lunch to celebrate. More information to come. Great job second graders!
English/Language Arts:
We continue to work on adverbs and adjectives. The students are also working in computer class with Mrs. Heidt on a special movie about sea creatures. They will be writing mini reports which will go on the movie as well.
Science:
We continue our unit on matter: solids, liquids, gases, and their different properties.
Social Studies:
A study guide for unit 5 was sent home on Tuesday (04/06). The test will be on Tuesday, Apr. 13. We will be reviewing in class, but students will need to study at home as well. Please have your child ask if he/she has any questions.
On a final note…
*Please continue to check your child’s HOME folder and assignment book each evening.
*Just a reminder that you can access our class blog by going to www.zionmrsbrewer.blogspot.com OR by going to the school website (www.brightonzionlutheran.org), clicking on School, Class Pages, and Mrs. Brewer’s name.
*Beginning in the second half of our school year, each student will have a chance to be our Student of the Week. When it is your child’s turn, he/she will bring home a form to fill out. Please help your child fill out the form by Wednesday of his/her week. On that day, he/she will share his/her answers with us and also have the opportunity to share one special item. More information will be sent when it is your child’s week.
*Mrs. Grein is again gearing up for our summer school program! This is a great way for any and all students to review basic second grade concepts in math and reading, and also a great way to keep brains functioning over the summer months so that students can feel confident moving into third grade. If you are interested in enrolling your child, please fill out the form that was sent home with the report cards, or speak with Mrs. Grein or myself if you need a new one.
God’s blessings on your week!
In Christ,
Mrs. Brewer
