The Second Grade “Scoop”

*May 5: Handbell/Band Concert
*May 7: Pizza lunch for those students who reached their Book It goals for all six months!
*May 12: Spring Musical at 7:00PM: Please note that part of each student’s music grade is based on attending this event. Please send a note to Mrs. Bell if your child is unable to attend. Thanks!
*May 14: Field Day at Denver Lutheran High School: Enclosed is more information regarding your child’s events as well as general information.
*May 17: Field trip to the Colorado State Capitol Building: Permission forms will be coming home soon.
*May 20: Eighth Grade Graduation
*May 21: Last Day of School—Early Release @11:30AM
*May 26: Report cards mailed home.
Spelling:
We will be on unit 35 for the book list, and list 25 for the challenge list. The pretests will be Monday, May 3, and the final tests will be Friday, May 7. (There are “extra” challenge words on the challenge list. These are just for fun—not graded. Students who do master the extra challenge words will have the opportunity to pick from the prize basket.)
Memory Work:
Memory work is enclosed.
Math:
We continue working on 100 subtraction facts and our 3s and 4s multiplication facts. I do have addition, subtraction, and multiplication flashcards to loan out for extra practice! Here are the 3s and 4s times tables:

Reading:
*Information regarding a book project was sent home last week. This project will be due Monday, May 17th. Please have your child let me know if he/she has any questions. Thanks!
English/Language Arts:
We continue to work on adverbs and adjectives. Students will be writing their own stories for our last writing project.
Science:
We continue our learning on nutrition and the human body. Information is enclosed on a special nutrition assignment that will be due Monday, May 10th. Students will also have a quiz on this day. They will need to be able to fill in a blank food pyramid. We will practice and review quite a bit in class.
Social Studies:
We continue our unit entitled “People in the Marketplace.” Students will learn about basic economics (ie. consumers and producers).
